About Mabinogi

Mabinogi is a 3-D cell shaped, Anime based, MMOPRG. This game is constantly being devoloped through patches that we mabian's know them as Generations and Seasons. Each Generation has a story line that follows the history of Errin. These storylines make the game intresting and also give you advantages if you manage to beat them. Such as The Paladin Transformation, DarkKnight Transformation, Exclusive Titles....the list will go on after further generations.

Making Money in Mabinogi

Theres lots of ways to make money and many people debate on what techniques to use..I'm just gonna list the ones I find useful. First always train at night when 'Eweca is starting to rise' that way when day hits you can do part-time jobs all day then go back to leveling at the night. *FOR THOSE MAGES THIS IS A GOOD IDEA SO YOU CAN AFFORD YOUR MAGIC BOOKS EARLY ON** You need to figure out when jobs start for the NPC's that give em. If you start early you wont have the problem of cramming in time to finish it at the end of that day. Jobs start (not positive bout this) at 7:00 am, 5:00 pm. Knowing this you can probably get in 2-5 jobs a day depending on how well equipped you are. Figuring out the jobs NPC's give you can help you gather items needed for those jobs at night then finishing the job right when you get it to fit in more jobs which means more MONEY!!! (Being prepared-i dont know this is some boy scout thingy) and that makes everyone happy because most of the work is already done before the job started . Doing several jobs a day can rack up your money to about 4-7G depending on which jobs you do and how fast you complete them. **I read on nexon forums that tuesdays are the best days for part-timing cause you earn alot more money...i dont know if this works try it out though 8-) ** Another way to earn money is to DUNGEON DUNGEON DUNGEON!!! Dungeoning (new word i think ) is a great way to train and earn money at the same time. When you are good enough do a 'Ciar Beginner Dungeon' (get the pass from 'Renald' at the 'school'). Most monsters are very killable and drop 'formor scrolls'. These scrolls are very quick ways to earn some nice amounts of cash. Talk to the various NPC's in every town and buy their 'formor scroll quests'. You can earn lots of money to store in your bank and easily buy that 'Claymore' or 'Sniper Suit' that you've been dying for. **Expensive items aren't always better!!! "noob" outfits can get you good stats...if you enchant them!! and arent as expensive to mantain** Also buying hunting PQ's (party quests) from NPC's are very easy if you have a rich or poor friend (no ones really rich in Mabinogi everyhtings so darn expensive *saved myself from using a curse word 8-) *) I found this to really work for me especially if your just starting out or have a character under lvl 20. RUN 'CIAR BEGINNER'!!!! <---stresses this point--- You can get the 'beginner passes' for ciar free from 'Randald' at the 'School' I'm serious get a good/ decent party and run 'ciar beginne'r all day. You can recruit friends and make it a daily habit. I earned over 50k in 3-4 days running 'Ciar Beginner' all day long. Also to get as much money out of this as possible save up the 'formor scrolls' from 'Ciar' and buy the quests from 'Duncan' in 'Tir Chonaill'. This can get you even more money and make you as rich as those cheap a**holes that waste real money buying the 'gold'. Sorry I just hate people like that even though im a little jealous -cries-....anyway mimic scroll quest gives you a nice 6k, and each Ciar run depending if you get 'Lucky' or not can give you 2k-10k+ in 10-20 mins depending on how fast you are.

All About Archers (stuff that is in game at the moment)

Archers are one of the least valued and popular "jobs" in the game because they cant solo on thier own alot until your rank is high, and getting good is very hard if you want to be a mix of jobs. ex: Archer/Mage/Blacksmith or Archer/Warrior/Bard or Archer/Weaver etc. the list can go on for a while and waste space because your wasting 'AP' that could be used to put up ur ranged attacks but you get the point.

Getting the Ranged skills

The first step to being an archer is to get the skills necessary to be an archer. 'Ranged Attack' and 'Magnum Shot' are your two main attacks at this point in the game. Other skills are the 'Support Shot' which lets you hit an enemy while in a party without disrupting the flow of battle. This can be very important to keeping your party alive and defeating the monster!! Also 'Arrow Revolver' which is a skill you have to learn through several pages that you can either find in dungeons or buy from people (SIDE NOTE) 'Elves' can shoot multiple arrows in general w/ out the skill also 'Elves' make better archers because they can run and shoot and they run FAST!!! sorry when Elves come out and you want to be the #1 ranked archer in 'Mabinogi' that you have to remake your character**. To get these skills you need to talk to NPC's in 'Tir Chonaill'. For 'Ranged Attack' you talk to 'Trefor' at the 'Northern Fields of Tir Chonaill' near 'Alby Dungeon' and 'Sidhe Sneachta'. Talk to him about 'Skills' and he will tell you about the 'Ranged Attack' skill. Follow his directions (or the map if you already know how to play..then again if you already know how to play then you should'nt be reading this guide now should you.... :P Im just playing with ya read my guide and do the poll!!!!!) to the 'School' and talk to 'Renald'. Go through your 'Memo' a few pages until you find the keyword 'Ranged Attack'. He will then give you a new keyword 'Bow', next go south and to the 'Blacksmith Shop' down past the 'Windmill' and the 'Inn' over the bridge and right up the short little hill!Talk to 'Ferghus' about the keyword 'Bow' in your memo and he will tell you that you can buy a bow at his shop and other stuff. End conversation unless you havent talked to him about the other stuff i dont really remember what but thats not important :P! So buy a bow and start killing brown foxes to level up your rank fast. All skills start out with the rank 'Novice', then go from F-A, then from 9-1. 1 being the highest rank that you can get. Training the skills is very time-consuming and takes alot of 'AP'!!! To learn the 'Magnum Shot' go talk to 'Chief Duncan' behind that really wide tree in the 'Square' in 'Tir Chonaill'. Then go back and talk to 'Trefor' again and use the keyword 'Magnum Shot', next go talk to 'Renald' at the 'School'...theres a pattern if you have'nt noticed.. Next is Getting Arrow Revolver which you need the "Fire Arrow" Title on and then go talk to the NPC at the school in Dunbarton (forgot the name >.<) Collect all the pages through dungeons or buying them (very expensive off of other people)

Good Defense/Secondary Skills

The basic skills that you will need are 'Combat Mastery', 'Sharp Mind' 'Smash, 'Defense', 'Counterattack', 'Critical Hit', and 'Windmill'. 'Combat Mastery' is a given skill of course your going to need it. 'Sharp Mind' is not a vital skill that you need but it helps you determine when to shoot and how to shoot. Leave this skill at Rank F so that you save some 'AP'. Although when your experienced players tend to learn the basic knowledge about monsters and when their going to attack even if you cant see their special skills you can still kick some butt!! **Any 'Life Skills' that add 'DEX', 'WILL', 'LUCK' is nice if you want to choose a alternate path along side archer. ('WILL' increases your stamina and chance of surviving after a deadly hit!! 'LUCK' makes you more likely to get a critical hit which means you can get some nice amount of money when you get that ' SUPER HUGE LUCKY FINISH' or whatever its called and have 10k drop from those 'Brown Foxes' or any monster.)

Useful tips and strategies

Being a 'pure archer' is very difficult in the beginning because all those new fancy skills that you learn makes you just wanna waste away all your 'AP' leveling them....FIGHT THE URGE TO DO THAT!!!!! or your gonna end up like me and make...about.... -counts-.......8 different accounts....yeah I know its alot. *Credit for campfire tip goes to "Relient"* Another use for campfires is for 'trapping' powerful aggresive monsters such as bears. Larger monsters will often get stuck around a sharp corners (this has happened to me but on wolves and foxes they got stuck around a tree) or object in the way; if you place a campfire in the right position and location, you can create a sort of trap for these monsters. I suggest placing a campfire as close to a small-medium sized tree **there are bears and these "small-medium" trees south of 'Dunbarton' going on down the path to 'Gairech' (hope thats how you spell it) on the left.** and then shooting the monster through the gap. Doing it will lure it into your trap and cause it to get stuck while trying to reach you. Even though the monster will not be able to move any closer, positioning yourself at the right angle will allow you t oattack it from a safe distance. Be sure not to use 'Magnum Shot' as that skill will release it from its bonds and it will be free to charge at you; use your normal 'Ranged Attack' (which does not have the 'knock-back' effect) and rely on your criticals to quickly bring down the large monsters/ However, since the monster is indeed stuck, you have plenty of time to bring it down as long as you stay at that angle and at a safe distance. Of course, this will not work when facing other ranged or magic-based monsters.*Credit for campfire tip goes to "Relient"*
First off, latency is an important part of mabinogi archers. Disable the Nagle algorithm. (Look it up, it's contained in these forums.) Basically, if you have a great internet connection, and windows XP, will decrease lag a noticable amount.

Learn how to 'ZS' (Zero Shot)

Zero shooting basically requires the statement above, and about rank 8 ranged or above. First off, you quickly get as close as to the monster as possible and shoot it constantly before it can recover from the last shot. (basically, go inside the monster!). If you have Rank 6 Archery, you should aim as close as possible to 99%, as you can imagine what happens if you miss. If a KB (Knock Back) occurs, it should already be close to death. if not, one, you can keep zero shooting, and walk towards it, or two, back away and shoot.

Be careful not to get attacked by monsters while doing so. Also, if it charges defense, back away, and Magnum that sucker.

Learn how to 'SOG' (Shot of God) [or as i like to call it, Shooting over a Glitch]
'SOG' is when you shoot when your knee bends back. It will hit every time. It requires a lot of stamina if you're bad at it and alot of patience to master it.

Stats

HP (Health Points)- Pretty basic, player survival rate will increase with more HP.
MP (Mana Points) - You don't need to much of it, but you also don't want too little of it.
SP (Stamina Points) - Pretty important, as an archer, you'll be using quite a bit of stamina.
Strength - This stat doesn't help bow damage in any way.
Dexterity - The main stat an archer would want. It adds to max and min. damage, balance, and injury.
Will - Adds to Critical chance, wound damage, and chance of going into deadly.
Luck - Adds to Critical hit chance.

Combat Skills in Depth look:

Combat Mastery - Not all that important, good for damage on a melee weapon if you choose to wield one as an auxiliary weapon. Also gives a boost of HP.

Smash - Also not important. Rank Novice or F is fine.

Defense
- Archer's will seldom use this skill. Rank F is fine.

Counterattack
- A good skill to use when you miss or don't want to take a risk at missing. Rank F or C are good caps to leave this at. Rank C cuts the stamina cost in half. Load time is always 1.5 seconds.

Windmill - Another good skill to keep in mind. At the moment, windmill's damage formula follows the bow damage range, so we can do decent damage with windmill. Windmill is a good defense skill since it loads quicker than Counterattack.

Rank F-A = Load time 1.1 seconds
Rank 9+ = Load time 0.8 seconds

Good ranking caps are either F or 9. When the current rank 6 caps are lifted, there is also a choice cap of 5 or 1 for extra range. One key factor in deciding a rank cap for Windmill is that at later levels, Windmill becomes harder to train. So if you plan on ranking this skill high, you may want to start early on.

Ranged Attack
- Ah yes, the archer's main skill focus. Rank up whenever you want. Where you stop and focus on other skills is up to you and how well you are doing as an archer. Personally, I liked mine caped at rank A but it's different for everyone. Eventually you'll be ranking this to 1.

Magnum Shot - The archer's form of Smash. Good for opening up battles and it's strong as well. This skill doesn't need that much attention, but it's all up to preference. The jump from rank A to 9 is a whopping 50% so you may want to consider rank 9. If the enemy is equipped with a shield while using the defense skill, magnum shot will be blocked.

Support Shot
- A faster and weaker version of ranged attack. According to Mabinogi World Wiki, the skill is currently bugged, so it's main use isn't available at the moment. However, it can help when you need to make a quick shot to save yourself or a friend.

Aiming speed is 130% of ranged attack.
Range is 90% of ranged attack.
Damage is 80% of ranged attack.

Magic Skills an in depth look:

Magic Mastery - eh... just rank up if you want more MP. Not very important.

Icebolt
- As with many other builds, rank F will do you just fine.

Firebolt
- Same with Icebolt, just get this to F.

Lightningbolt
- This skill is optional. Either leave at Novice, rank F, or raise to rank A or beyond. Currently, Dex has a big factor on Magic Balance. As an archer with the goal of getting high Dex, you may be able to put this skill to good use despite it's wide damage range.

Meditation
- Not really important.

Enchant - Not important, but can give a boost of Dex. Rank F or E is fine. More if you really want to.

Life Skills another in depth look:

Blacksmithing
- Can be of use to make Arrow Heads. However you raise this skill is up to you. It gives some Dex and the scrolls to make Arrows Heads are ranked at F, D and A. (at the moment, Finest Arrowheads/bolts are not available)

Handmade Arrows/Bolts = +5 Damage.
Fine Handmade Arrows/Bolts = +5 Damage. +5 Accuracy.
Finest Handmade Arrows/Bolts = +5 Damage, +5 Accuracy, +2 Critical.

Refine
- One of the top 3 life skills to help in raising Dex. Depending on your level of Dex, you might want to do this early. At certain ranks, this skill requires you to achieve a "failure" to rank up. As an archer with high dex, it may become difficult to fail on purpose.

Tailoring -
Gives some Dex. Raise when you want. Not all that important.

Weaving
- Currently the best skill to raise when looking for more Dex. It's pretty hard to raise, but if you're diligent, it'll pay off.

First Aid
- Gives decent Dex. Raise when you want.

Rest
- Up to you.

Production Mastery
- A great skill to work on if you're looking for Stamina. Ranks 9+ gives some Dex.

Playing Instrument
- Gives some Dex, Raise when you want.

Composing
- Not important. Leave at Novice.

Music Theory - Also not important.

Potion Making
- Not important.

Herbalism - Not important, unless you really want it, then get it.

Handicraft
- Highly Recommended to get. Currently 2nd best Life skill to get for Dex boost. And it is also needed to create handmade arrows/bolts.

Fishing
- Not important.

Cooking
- Not important, unless you want to cook.

Campfire - Leave at F.

Choosing Equipment

There are 3 bows to pick from as of right now: 'Short', 'Long', and 'Composite. 'Short'-has short range but the most powerful. 'Long'-has the best range but low attack. 'Composite'-has pretty good range, and power, 'Leather Long Bow'-is an upgraded version of the Long Bow and 'Guardian Bow' (sold in Bangor by Edern) are released. The bow/x-bow(crossbow) that you pick is all a matter of your opinion.**Dont go buying colored weapons they are for show and can be very expensive and put a huge dent in you pocket always check the stats of the weapon before you make a purchase. (i bought a red pickaxe for 3k it looks SHINY!!! T.T lol)* If you like distance go with a 'long bow'. If your rank is high and you can kill before it hits you be my guest and pick whatever bow you like. For Armor pick light clothing nothing too heavy duty, and not too expensive NOT all expensive armor is good armor.
Enchanting your Armor/Clothing

For Prefix equips:

Fox - Adds to max and min. damage. Works for any equip.
Fox Hunter - Adds to max damage. A sort of weaker form of Fox, but works just fine as Dex should cover up your min with balance. Also, since it's rank D, it's easier to enchant.
Intricate - For weapons only. Gives 8 Dex if your tailoring is below rank A.
Scrupulous - For clothes and armor. Gives 5 Dex each if Lightningbolt, Smash, and/or Arrow Revolver is above rank B. (total: 15 Dex possible)
Wolf Hunter's - Rare but if you can get it, why not. Adds 4-6 max damage.

For Suffix equips :

Kobold - Gives 3 Dex. Any equip.
Wind - Gives 2-3 Dex. Works for Gloves, Footgear, and accessories.
Cloud - Gives 1-2 Dex. Works for Headgear, Footgear, and accessories.

Eating and Diets

For archers the basic and recommended diet for 'Mabinogi' is 'Berries', 'Bread', and 'Water'(can buy empty bottle in general shop and go to a river to fill it up). If you eat this alot you will gain permanent (for the most part) 'Dex' and 'Int' bonuses **huge plus for mages and archers** These bonuses will go away after 'rebirth' so just eat again. (rebirthing recommended by the way).

However, there are certain tricks that allow you to do well, maybe even better than warriors and mages, when you are an archer. This is probably the best one of them all.

The WALL glitch.

If there is a wall in the way between you and the enemy, what will happen? They'll try to run at you, and get stuck. You can't shoot through a wall, but if you angle yourself perfectly, you should be able to shoot to the side.

What if there isn't a tree or a sign post in the way, what do you do? MAKE an object to get in the way. Namely, a CAMPFIRE. This not only works well to block your enemies, but your arrows catch on fire, adding to your damage.

Here is a 14 second MS pain illustration of how it works, for you visual learners out there. (this picture was already posted in a questions thread lol)

As long as the enemy does not meet any of the following, this technique can be used with all ranged attacks.
1) The enemy has teleport
2) The enemy has a ranged attack
3) There are other enemies nearby which can attack you
4) The enemy's Ai is set to run back when hit (RARE)

Of course, no glitch tip is complete without a video!
I took the liberty of logging on my lovely elf to show how this works.

DO NOT USE AN ATTACK THAT DOES KNOCKBACK TO THE ENEMY WHEN IT IS STUCK BECAUSE IT WILL GET UNSTUCK AND OWN YOU.
